What is Twisted Bridge Dubai?

The Twisted Bridge is one of the three pedestrian bridges built under the Water Canal development project. It has a double Helix structure that twists creating a structure like the infinity symbol. It is about 460 feet long and suspended  8.5 meters/28 feet above the water. Plus the aluminum frames clad the length of the bridge to create the monumental twisted layout. It was originally called Bridge 03 but the name Twisted Bridge became popular because of its rather unique design.

Its construction was completed in 2017 and since then millions of tourists have visited it. Additionally, Twisted Bridge has won several awards for its design. Conde Nast Traveller, a luxurious travel magazine,  included Twisted Bridge in its list of the world’s most beautiful bridges. The fluid and futuristic design symbolizes the dynamic future of Dubai.

What is the location of Twisted Bridge?

Twisted Bridge is located at 75 22C St over the Dubai Water Canal near Jumeirah, Dubai. The peculiar structure resembling the infinity symbol (∞) of the bridge will be visible from afar when you are in Jumeirah so you will have no problem finding it.

History of Twisted Bridge Dubai

The Twisted Bridge was designed by Ismail Kerem Şerifoğlu and Tamer Fawzi Ismail. They started their studies and careers together in the design studios of the American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD). They along with their wives are award-winning architects, interior designers, and visual artists.

Right after graduating, they took over and executed a $1.3 billion project which involved developing an Autodrome and modern showroom, etc. They went on to design many other major commercial, hospitality, healthcare, commercial, and educational projects all over the Gulf region.

One of their major projects was called Dubai Water Canal Development. They started working on it in 2014 and completed it in 2017. It aimed to connect Dubai Creek to the Arabian Gulf but this project cut one side of Dubai to the other. To solve this problem, these three pedestrian bridges were built.  Kerem and Tamer lead the team that built these bridges. All three bridges have striking and impressive structures but Twisted Bridge takes the crown. Its twisting truss design is spectacular and remarkable.

Both Kerem and Tamer consider the Three Bridges to be their most glorious architectural collaboration. Unfortunately, this project was their last project together. Kerem died shortly after this project was completed. This is the reason the backstory of the bridges is considered tragic. The story of Kerem moved many across the globe. But Kerem’s legacy lives on through the Three Bridges and Tamer.
